Sussex County Memorial Service on The Circle

The traditional Sussex County Memorial Day Service will be held on the Circle in Georgetown, Sunday, May 30th at 1:30 PM sponsored by the Georgetown Kiwanis Club, Korean War Veterans Association and the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club.

The Keynote address “From Sea to Shining Sea” will be delivered by Colonel Jeffrey P. Hilovsky, USAFR (Ret.), former Medical Commander of the 512th Airlift Wing. Dr. Hilovsky is better known locally as part of Sussex Eye Center and is currently active in civic and Optometric endeavors.

Master of Ceremonies will be Georgetown’s State Senator, Brian G. Pettyjohn. The Colors will be presented by the Sussex Central High School Junior Army ROTC.  Invocation and benediction will be offered by the Reverend Anthony L. Neal, Pastor of Everlasting Hope Ministries in Georgetown.

Cathy Gorman of Georgetown will return to sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful. The audience is invited to sing along.

Memorial wreathes will be placed by local veterans’ groups and service organizations in tribute to those who died in both World Wars, Korea, Viet Nam, and more recent conflicts to protect our freedoms. Assisting will be members of Troop 95, Boy Scouts of America.

The rifle salute will be executed by members of the 198th Signal Battalion, Delaware National Guard, stationed at the Georgetown Armory. Taps and its echo will be performed by Sussex Central Band Director Ben Ables and Sebastian Klimitchev, his student at Sussex Central. 

The program is scheduled to last about 50 minutes. Seating is provided on The Circle.  Attendees are also encouraged to bring comfortable folding chairs and abide by CDC guidelines.
