Finally got around to reading Patrick Kelly’s much-praised major opus: Tax-Free Retirement*. It lives up to the hype.
Taxes and other perils are set to destroy your retirement income. He chats with you in your living room and previews the dangers and dispels common misconceptions. Thus prepared, he unsheathes his primary strategy and applies it to several familiar situations. Knowing the punch line (having promoted the same strategies for years) made me impatient, but I was not disappointed.
Secure tax-free retirement income is not only attainable, it is essential for those facing the loss of 30 to 50 percent (or more) of their income to taxes, market dives or poor timing.
The edition I read, the latest (2017), does not include the new restrictions on IRAs, etc., but that matters not. What is important is that tax-free income can still be secured and future taxes avoided if strategies are adopted now. New legislation (inevitable, in my opinion) will surely “grandfather” current actions and only affect moves after enactment.
Uncle needs our dollars. The Pandemic is only one of our many unfunded obligations. All retirement funds, especially IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, etc. are too juicy and exposed a target to be ignored.
Clear and conversational. Well worth reading and implementing.
